Trinidad James dropped from Def Jam!

It was only a matter of time.. Trinidad James has been dropped from Def Jam.

He tweeted: "I should tell yall. I got dropped by the Label. My Album is now free. If u hear ur beat or verse on it. I hope u want dap cuz i got no money.”

James signed with Def Jam in 2012, following the success of "All Gold Everything.” After a slew of walk through’s and club performances he has now been dropped before an album could even see day light.

Because everyone is an artist these days..

James has always stated that he is not the most lyrical or skilled rapper, but that he finds rapping entertaining. With the blow up of “All gold everything” labels saw a chance to make a quick buck and a battle ensued where he found a home in a joint venture Def Jam deal.

While his hit song grabbed spots in commercial endorsements, he released a few more singles to no real air play. Slowly James faded into the background as the next catchy trap song took its place… I’m sure several have replaced that one in the two years that followed as well.

Sadly, this is a trend in the hip-hop world these days.

What has happen to Trinidad James is an example of the many things going wrong in the music industry today. Where it once took real skill and talent to make companies want to invest in your career, now all that is needed is the vessel to spew out whatever they want to sell the people.  If it falls into their lap, that is even better. So when the a&r execs start to hear about “so & so” having the hottest record in the streets or club they seek that artist out. Being that most of these artists have dreams of fame and fortune, opposed to a larger outlet to create art, they will agree to most any deal they are offered. So they sign their capitol away. Their capitol is that ONE hit song, and now the record company will be taking a large percentage of all the sales it brings in. Once that songs popularity is milked dry that artist will be shelved and forgotten about till the day they announce they have been dropped from their label.

Now I am not with this desecration of music as an art, but I can say that at least if a gimmick artist stays independent that may see a coin they can further flip.  Instead the jaded mentality buys the dreams and these major corporations take advantage of that. Though I still fight to see REAL music back in the mainstream, I still hate to see the art that was and is hip-hop be exploited.

So to all the artists out there or those he even know one…

study your craft, study the business, study the industry, surround yourself with a trust worthy team, and execute YOUR dreams.
